Microsoft 365 subscription without Copilot

Members who subscribe to Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365) will probably have a shock to see a huge increase in the annual fee. This is because of the inclusion of Microsoft’s AI program, Copilot in the subscription.

If you do not want to use Copilot you can change to a ‘Classic’ subscription, which includes the usual Office apps without Copilot. The following information is taken from the Microsoft Support website. Click here to go to that page.

‘Downgrade to Microsoft 365 Personal or Microsoft 365 Family Classic

    1. Go to Services & subscriptions. Sign in with the Microsoft account associated with your subscription, if prompted.

    2. Find your current subscription and select Manage > Cancel subscription

    3. To downgrade to another plan with fewer features, select Microsoft 365 Personal Classic or Microsoft 365 Family Classic, or another plan that works for you.

    4. Follow the instructions to complete the switch.

Your existing subscription might not change immediately, but it will automatically switch to the new plan at renewal. You will not be charged for the new plan until it renews. ‘

Annual General Meeting 2025

The 2025 AGM will be held on 22 March, starting at 10:00 am. More information will be available in the next Campus Communique.

Lead-up activities for the Secretary include seeking nominations and managing the voting process for the election of the 2025 Management Committee. If you wish to be nominated to serve as an Officer or on the Committee, nomination forms will be available from 12 February.

Covid warning

It seems a new wave of Covid is making the rounds, as well as flu and colds.

Please consider others and stay away from campus if you are unwell.

To help keep yourself and others safe, please use follow Queensland Health’s advice about hand washing, personal space, covering the mouth from sneezing and coughing. You may also wear a mask if you wish.

All classrooms have hand gel and wipes available; please wipe down tables after use.

You can read our Covid procedures here.

New scam phone calls and emails

Some members have advised they have received emails and/or phone calls telling them they must pay their class fees in advance or they will lose their place in their class. The calls have been from both male and female callers. The man has identified himself as “Richard”.

These calls and emails are a scam. Members are not obliged to pay for their classes in advance.

While paying in advance is an option for most classes, members still have the option of paying class by class using vouchers, which can be bought from the office.
