Week 6 - Term 3
U3A Diary (a summary - details further down)
Our concert groups are honing their acts and I am very much looking forward to the Concert on the 24th August for a morning of fun and enjoyment, when our various acts will demonstrate the skills they have perfected here at U3A. Our Local State Member Yvette D'Ath has donated a large hamper as our Lucky Door Prize, which is very much appreciated. There are still a few tickets left - have you got yours yet?
Your committee has decided to participate in the Redcliffe Festival “What's Cooking in the Gardens" Day on Sunday the 3th September. This is the first time not-for-profit organisations have had to pay a fee (a sign of the times) but we think the exposure we will get there will be very worthwhile. Elsewhere in this Communiqué it explains how you can volunteer to help on the day.
The presentation made by The Department of Transport and Main Roads was very informative, I have been told, and it was a shame more members did not attend. As part of our Speakers Series we will be holding a Service Day on 28th September between 10am and 3pm with speakers talking about First Aid, Fall Prevention, Hearing Assistance and Home Assistance.
German Classes – Rosemarie Stanton is away from 5th August until 5th September. Monika Fichenmayer will be the relief tutor for the Intermediate class; and Jean Anderson will be the relief tutor for the Beginners class during this time. There will be no Advanced classes whilst Rosemarie is away.
We have TWO EVENTS taking place in August and September, and we are in need of members to volunteer their services please.
Senior's Week Concert – Thursday 24th August
Tickets for the Senior’s Week Concert are selling well. $10 will get you a seat at the Concert, plus we will be providing a delicious light lunch at the conclusion of the Concert.
We have received a beautiful Hamper from Yvette D’ath MP, the State Member for Redcliffe to be offered as our Lucky Door Prize.
Campus classes for Wednesday 23rd afternoon will not be on, due to Senior’s Concert Rehearsal and setting up for concert.
Campus Closure for Senior’s Concert on THURSDAY 24TH AUGUST. The campus will be closed for classes all day. Classes will resume on Friday 25th.
We require 2 STAGE HANDS to help out on the concert day. No heavy lifting. Please leave your name and phone number at the office and our Stage Manager Bernadette will contact you.
“What's cooking in the Botanical Gardens” – Sunday 3rd September
We have a stall at this event and we will need Volunteers to come along and spread the word about U3A Redcliffe. Share your enthusiasm, answer enquiries and have a chat with visitors.
There is a roster outside the U3A office so if you can spare an hour between the hours of 9.00am until 3.00pm please put your name down.
Yet again another successful and enjoyable Trivia morning took place during term break. Another is planned for WEDNESDAY 20TH SEPTEMBER and we are taking bookings at the Office. For more than six years the cost per player has been $8. At the last Management Committee Meeting I put forward a motion to increase the cost to $10, due to increasing costs. The Management Committee voted in favour of this increase, so the cost for Trivia will now be $10.Tables of 4 players, with maximum number set at 52 players. Come along to the office, reserve your spot and pay your fee. We can make up a table if you don’t have a team of 4.
The Exhibition is now on show at the Redcliffe Cultural Centre. Janice Charlish, President Moreton Bay Arts Council who spent Wednesday setting up the exhibition with members of the Arts Council, has sent through an email saying:
“PLEASE GIVE A BIG CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE U3A ARTISTS FOR THEIR GREAT WORK IN THE” CELEBRATE THROUGH ART “ EXHIBITION.
THE STAGE DOOR GALLERY LOOKS WONDERFUL. One Artist has already sold one of her paintings.”
I went down on Friday to have a look and it is wonderful. We do have some amazing and talented Artists here at U3A Redcliffe.
Please do go and have a look at the work on display and celebrate Senior’s Week. The exhibition is open until Monday 28th August.
Judith Murphy, Secretary

CARE & CONCERN
At times we are advised that a member has not been enjoying the best of health, perhaps with a hospital stay. On some occasions we have not known of this until much later. If you know of a member who is not well, please let the office team know. There is a book in the office where details can be recorded and our Care and Concern Aide, Shirley Smith will check the book and take appropriate action.
Any member who has anything they would like published, relating to U3A or simply some musings they think will interest our readers, please email to email@example.com or drop a copy into the office, clearly marked "Campus Communique".
The E-newsletter: Des Jackson, EditorThe editor reserves the right to publish articles in any form. The Campus Communiqué is published with the full approval of the committee of U3A
